Low fat breakfast smoothies!!

As part of my target to start eating healthy, replacing my morning meal with a smoothie was such a great idea. They are extremely refreshing and have little fat inside them. It takes only around 5 minutes prep time and 1 minute to blend and be ready to drink, so even if you have limited time before work in the morning, it’s still possible to give your body the nutrients it needs ready for the day.

1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt

2 heaping cups fresh strawberries, hulled and rinsed🍓🍓

1 firm banana, peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces🍌🍌

2 tsp honey, maple syrup or white sugar (plus more to taste)🍯🍯

1 cup of ice (optional)

Personally, I put all of everything in the blender for 40 seconds on high speed to ensure there are no lumps. But blending for less time would give you pieces of banana and strawberries within the drink which some people prefer.

On days where I’m feeling hungrier than usual I also like to add oats, these can be put into the drink during blending or fill the first quarter of the glass with them and then top up with smoothie, use a spoon to eat them.

Ice is optional dependant on the thickness of the smoothie, ice will make it thicker if the consistency is water like. It also makes the drink extra cold on summer days, however another way to do this would be to use frozen strawberries rather than fresh ones.

Berries are extremely good for your health and help balance protein levels whilst natural sugar provides an energy boost. This said, the strawberries can be substituted or mixed with other berries to get the same effects. Bananas are amazing for energy release over long periods and taste great in smoothies.

Have fun trying !!
